2018 Honorary Co-Chair
Gheorghe Mureşan
Gheorghe Mureşan, also known as "Ghiță”, is a Romanian retired professional basketball player. At 7 feet 7 inches, he is recognized as the tallest player in NBA history. Mureşan’s professional basketball career, which spans over 11 years, included 4 seasons as a Center for the Washington Bullets (now Wizards) from 1993 - 2000.
In 2004, he founded Giant Basketball Academy (GBA), a program dedicated to teaching the proper fundamentals of basketball to boys and girls of all ages. In addition to his work with the Academy, Gheorghe is part of the Washington Wizards marketing and public relations team and serves as a “team ambassador”.
After his late mother, Maria Mureşan, passed away from colon cancer, Mureşan has become heavily involved with various charity organizations, like the Prevent Cancer Foundation. We are thankful for his support and are happy to welcome him as an Honorary Co-Chair of this year’s Prevent Cancer Health Fair and 5K Walk/Run.
